Your car is one of the most important things that you own. It is your car that gets you to work and back and often takes you to vacations. Simply put, your car is a vital part of your life. Since it is so vital, it is very important that you take very good care of your car. There is no doubt that driving your car is likely the most dangerous thing that you will do today. You need to make sure that your car is well maintained and safe for you and others around you. Here are a few maintenance tips for you when it comes to your car.

Tires

One of the most important aspects of your car is the tires. It is the tires that are going to be giving you the friction you need to move forward, and good tires are important. Make sure that the tread on the tires is thick enough. Stick a penny in the tread with President Lincoln's head down. If you can see any part of the top of his head, it is time to get new tires. It is also important to get your tires rotated so you have good control of your car. Keep in mind that there are different tires for different seasons and that it is important to have the right tire on your car at all times. If you have a summer tire on in the snow, you may have zero traction—think about a hockey puck. Pick tires for the season as part of your vehicle maintenance plan.

Oil

Without engine oil, your engine would quickly stop working. Ask anyone who failed to change out their oil. The oil that you put in your engine acts as a lubricant to ensure that all the moving parts operate at peak performance. However, after awhile, the oil starts to become less effective, and it is then that it is so important to change your oil. There are two kinds of oil that you can use. There is mineral oil, which will protect your engine for approximately 3,000 miles. Then there is synthetic oil which is a mineral oil base with additives. This type of oil will protect your engine for approximately 6,000 miles. Either oil you choose to put in your car is perfectly fine, it is just very important that you remember when to get your oil changed.
